Ice Fishing Report for the Adirondacks
This is what I can say:
Looks like we have some fishable Ice on Durant, some parts of Tupper, Loon, Minerva, adirondack, and others. Looks like most places should be locked up by next weekend with the sub-zero temps to come. We checked Lake Colby, and it still looked very dodgey. A few brave/nutty souls were out on Simond pond and Raquette pond, however they are not venturing far from shore and not catching much close in. I kept hearing Durant was safe, but I did not see anyone out when I drove by.
Very few places are completely safe, and slush and deep snow are the major problem. We scouted around, and the conditions are very varriable throughout the park, but there is safe ice available. I would use your spud stick and look for places that others have fished. Some folks have already fallen through on Lake Eaton (May be safe now is some places), so be careful. Never go out alone.
Remember to throw back the fish you are not going to eat, and the true giants you are not going to mount (esspecially if they aren't gut hooked).
Surface temperature on Lake George is about 40, so hopefully it will be good this season.
